NFPA70E 2018 Update - Implications for CBM Data Collection
Description:
Significant changes were made to the NFPA70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace document in the edition published in early 2018. This presentation breaks down the changes with the intent to provide a practical guide for how Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) inspection data collection is impacted. CBM (Infrared and Ultrasound specifically) data collection is particularly relevant as this must typically be done with equipment energized and under normal operating parameters and both technologies provide early warning signs of impending equipment failure. The Hierarchy of Control concept will be discussed at length as the primary method to reduce risk when working on energized equipment. Table 130.5.C will be broken down to ensure attendees understand how the use of Electrical Maintenance Safety Devices can facilitate both compliance with NFPA guidelines while ensuring accurate and efficient data collection. Work permit requirements and the difference between Limited and Restricted Approach and Arc Flash Boundary will be discussed. PPE requirements will also be covered. Common triggers of Arc Flash and some Arc Flash and electrocution statistics will also be covered
