Instructor Name: Rich Powers
Company: American Specialty Insurance
Bio: ich Powers joined American Specialty in 2000 and has 29 years of experience in the sports and entertainment industry.   Rich currently oversees American Specialty’s Risk Services Department and is responsible for the development of risk and crisis management products and services for American Specialty’s clients. Rich annually performs 15 to 20 on-site risk management evaluations at stadiums, arenas, sporting events, and theme parks across the country. He has conducted physical assessments and operational evaluations for Major League Baseball Clubs since 2003 and developed the onsite risk management evaluation process tailored specifically for Major League Baseball Clubs referred to as the Excellence Management Program. He also has been involved in the Business Continuity & Crisis Response Plan development for ten Major League Baseball Clubs and was the lead project manager for the St. Louis Cardinals’ Emergency Response Plan development for the new Busch Stadium.   Rich began his career in the waterpark industry and was the Director of Park Operations for Waterworld USA, a Six Flags facility in Sacramento, California. During his fourteen year tenure at Waterworld, he was responsible for training and certifying the park’s lifeguard staff and developed and implemented the park’s training, safety, customer service and leadership development programs. He served on various safety standardization committees within Six Flags and played an active role in developing training programs and standardizing many of the company’s corporate operational policies and procedures. Rich also has six years of field experience as an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic for Metropolitan Ambulance Services and American Medical Response.      Rich has an educational background that includes a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from California State University Sacramento and received his Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic license from the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Rich holds his Associate of Risk Management designation and is a National Floor Safety Institute Certified Walkway Auditor. He also holds his NAARSO Level 1 Amusement Ride Inspector certification and many other certifications and licenses within the sports and entertainment industry.   Rich gives many risk and crisis management presentations for the sports and entertainment industry including; Stadium Managers Association, International Association of Venue Managers, Amusement Industry Manufacturers and Suppliers Association, International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Contingency Planning and Management Expo and Conference, Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, and numerous Major League Baseball Clubs. He is a member of ASTM International, and the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety & Security. Rich is also a Licensed Insurance Producer in the State of Indiana.     Rich and his wife live in Roanoke, Indiana, where he enjoys sports, fitness, and outdoor activities. body { background: #FFF; }
