Instructor Name: Bob Hartline
Company: UniversalParks and Resorts
Bio: Bob Hartline is the Chief Sustaining Controls Engineer for Universal Orlando. In this role, Bob provides technical support for operational readiness as well as engineering and design support for the continual improvement process for existing systems and new project development. Bob has worked in the Theme Park Engineering field for 30 years. His career spans achievements at Walt Disney World, Rockwell Automation, Guardian Manufacturing, Entech Creative and Universal Orlando. Bob has an extensive background in the automated control systems, along with expertise in motor and motor control systems. He developed and redesigned special motor systems such as the launch system on the Incredible Hulk roller coaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, the GM test track vehicle drive system at EPCOT and linear motor applications on several attractions. His work in automated control systems ranges from the basic iron rides to complicated motion and multiple processor systems with stringent safety requirements, including the Spiderman ride vehicle.  The challenges in this industry are to develop once in a lifetime experiences for park guests using the latest available technologies. The priorities are safety, reliability, maintainability and throughput.  System architecture, including failure means and effects analysis along with developing and executing acceptance test plans are a part of every application, each unique from one to another. Security and access to ride control systems to insure system integrity is now a key focus as well as product obsolescence as introducing new technologies generally increases the risks. body { background: #FFF; } body { background: #FFF; }
